Alabama and Florida Public Beaches

Until visiting the Gulf Coast, many people are unaware that it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Some say it's the sugar-white sand that is so soft that you feel you are walking on clouds, while others insist that it 's the crystal-clear teal gulf waters that make the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast beaches so spectacular. Everyone seems to have their own opinion. However, no matter which of our peaceful beach destinations you choose to visit during your stay, the only decision you really will have trouble deciding is where to plant your beach umbrella!

You'll find a variety of public beaches in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama, as well as Perdido Key and Pensacola, Florida - each special in its own way and each offering a different experience. Try 'em all and see which fits you best.

Orange Beach, Alabama
Gulf State Park provides access to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. The park's beach pavilion, and the three public beach areas scattered along Alabama Hwy. 182 in Orange Beach, provide plenty of space to relax or play. Whether you're looking for open beach, a spot to surf fish, or you just want to do some people watching, there's plenty to do at the park's beaches.
Gulf Shores, Alabama
If you're looking for volleyball-playing, beach-bar-hanging good times, this spot - where Highway 59 dead-ends into the Gulf - is for you. For a small fee, you get all-day, up-close parking, making it easy to unload your gear. Beach attendants, three open-air pavilions and a picnic area are available. There are also restrooms and showers on site. This is a popular spot, so you may want to arrive early to get a prime parking spot.
Perdido Key Beach - Perdido Key, Florida
The azure waters of the Gulf of Mexico frame the famed white beaches of this very special place. These beaches and their dune habitat play host to a variety of visitors and residents throughout the year. The beach dune habitat of Perdido Key is characterized by several rows of wind built sand dunes. "Frontal" or "primary" dunes are vegetated with grasses including sea oats, bunch grass, and beach grass. Among other plant species growing in primary dunes are Florida rosemary, railroad vine and beach morning glories. "Secondary" dunes, further inland, support saw palmetto, slash and sand pines, and scrubby shrubs and oaks. Growing between the dunes are cordgrass, salt-grass, pine trees, purslane and, among others, pennywort.
